Goals galore in Portroe

Rearcross FC travelled to Portroe last Sunday for a 2pm kick-off against Arra Rovers. Rearcross FC ran out 6-0 winners on the day. Rearcross got their first when Patrick Dawson whipped in a wide free kick to the back post, which was met by the head of James Deegan to keep the ball alive. Stephen Rochford got on the end of the loose ball and fed it back across the box where Greg Kennedy struck the ball into the bottom corner with a left footed effort. Rearcross FCs second goal came after Greg Kennedys' free kick from inside his own half dropped to James Deegan. Deegan controlled the ball and turned past a number of Arra Rovers defenders before striking the ball into the top corner across the reach of the Arra Rovers goalkeeper. Rearcross FC got their 3rd goal before half time when Patrick Dawson was given room to shoot from outside the box. A well struck effort was heading into the keepers' grasp before a wicked deflection off the surface caused the ball to veer into the net. Rearcross added 3 more goals in the second half. Cillian Kennedy got on the end of a long ball out from Cathal Kennedy in the Rearcross goals. Cillian Kennedy made no mistake while bearing down on goal to slot home. Stephen Rochford added to Rearcross FC’s tally when he picked up the ball in a wide position and powered into the Arra Rovers box past a number of tackles. Stephen Rochford then kept his composure to chip the ball over the Arra Rovers goalkeeper, who had attempted to close down the space. Rearcross FC rounded off the scoring with 10 minutes to go when James Deegan swung in a corner where Michael O’Gorman caused the Arra Rovers defenders’ trouble. The ball broke to Greg Kennedy at the back post, who guided a low effort back across the Arra Rovers goalkeeper and into the net. Credit to Arra Rovers who kept plugging away and had one or two chances themselves, mostly caused by their pacey forward line.
