Thrilling win for Rearcross U-14 Girls

Rearcross U-14 Girls travelled to Newtown to play their Arra Rovers counterparts in a 10am kick off in the NTSFL league on Saturday morning. This was a really competitive encounter, with the young Rearcross side more than holding their own against a well drilled Arra Rovers side. Rearcross absorbed huge pressure from Arra Rovers in the first half, but could not find a way past our back 3 of Zofia Kwiecinska, Aoibheann Devitt and Shauna Carr with the ever-reliable Ewa Kwiecinska between the posts. Orlaigh Carr and Abbie Carroll, were involved in a ding dong battle in central midfield, both running hard against the Arra midfield, ably assisted by the hard working Chloe Quinlan and Zara Maher on either flank, with Isabel Keogh, Anna Kennedy and Kate Kennedy, working very hard up front and causing the Arra defence plenty of problems.
Rearcross made some positional changes at half time with Zara Maher taking the goalkeeping duties, Ruth Johnson coming on at right back and fitting in seamlessly and Ewa Kwiecinska showing her versatility by moving up front. Rearcross hit the front after 10 minutes of the second half, Aoibheann Devitt played a ball over the top which Kate Kennedy ran onto and finished a powerful low drive from the edge of the box. Rearcross were now on top, with our defence repelling Arra attacks and our midfield and attackers putting huge pressure on the Arra rearguard. Arra too had some dominant moments with Juliette Taylor and Allanah Carroll very dangerous, with some last ditch defending denying them goals. Rearcross also introduced Ellie O Gorman and Eve Richardson who played excellently, having 3 more years along with Ewa Kwiecinska at this age group. Rearcross ran out 1 nil winners in a very entertaining evenly competitive game, and from a Rearcross point of view it's very encouraging to see our players been so competitive, particularly our younger ladies on the squad. That’s a win and a draw for our U14 ladies in their last 2 fixtures, both played away.
Rearcross wish a speedy recovery to Lauren Hartnett who is currently recovering from a recent illness and looking forward to seeing Lauren back in the Rearcross colours in the not-too-distant future.
