Rearcross U-14's off to winning start in Newtown

Rearcross U-14's trekked to Newtown last Saturday for this opening league fixture and make the trip worthwhile with a merited 4-2 victory. The Rea boys showed the early form and led two nil at half time whistle but had to overcome a saved penalty on 15 minutes when the Arra custodian saved from the boot of Jack Nolan. The visitors made a quick recovery and hit the front when Jack Nolan rattled the net this time round with great link up play involving Liam Ryan and Conor Carr. It was two nil to Rearcross in the 22nd minute when the referee pointed to the spot for a second time, Jack Nolan gave the keeper no chance after smashing the ball to the keeper's right. At the other end, Rearcross keeper Paddy Ryan had a quiet opening half with Oisin Reynolds and Colm Hickey producing dominant displays.
The visiting side picked it up again in the second half and stretched their advantage to three with a brilliant solo effort from Liam Ryan who rounded three Arra players down the left before slotting a low drive to the keeper's left. Goal number four game on the 55-minute mark when substitute Darragh Reynolds showed brilliant attacking prowess before being fouled just outside the box. Jonathon Dawson stepped up and stuck a delightful free kick over the wall as the ball nestled in the top right-hand corner. Rearcross with sights on Monday evening's tie with Lough Derg emptied the bench as Arra Rovers tacked on two late goals to leave a final scoreline of 4-2 in favour of the Slieve Felim side.
