Impressive 2-1 away win for Rearcross ‘B’ in Borrisokane
Rearcross were the visitors to Borrisokane on Sunday afternoon. Borrisokane who have been in good form lately and sitting 3rd in the league table. The opening 20 minutes was a cagey affair with both sides trying to get a foothold in the game. The best chance fell to Borrisokane in this period when Luke Quigley was played in one on one with Brian Hammersley but a combination of some last ditch defending and a good save from the Rearcross custodian ensured the scoreline remained at nil all. From here Rea managed to gain a foothold in the game and took the lead in the 32nd minute, a corner from the right was swung in by Colm Carey, which saw Rob Harrington rise highest and his looping header eluded the keeper and the man on the post, to nestle into the net. For the remainder of the half Borrisokane huffed and puffed to try get the equaliser but could not breach the back four of Rea.
Rearcross started the 2nd half brightly and nearly found themselves 2 goals to the good on a number of occasions. Gary Ryan with the first chance inside the box but didn’t get the connection he would have liked on the strike. Oisin Kelly who was busy on the right wing had the next chance but his strike from an acute angle went the wrong side of the post. Rea did make it 2 nil in the 55th minute when a great free kick delivery from Gary Ryan saw Kieran Devitt compete for the ball only for it to land at Rob Harrington’s feet and before he was able to pull the trigger Mikey Feehan swept the ball into the top corner of the net in what was a real poachers finish. Borrisokane pulled a goal back on 70 minutes from the penalty spot when Andy Nevin made no mistake to finish to the corner of the net despite Brian Hammersley guessing the right way. This set up a grandstand finish and credit to Borrisokane they threw the kitchen sink at Rearcross and nearly had the equaliser on 2 separate occasions only for Oisin Kelly to clear off the line from a corner and Paddy Carey also blocked a header when it seemed destined for the net. Rea nearly sealed the tie when Oisin Kelly got the ball on the right and his great cross found Eoghan Kavanagh at the back post but his header went over the bar. A hard-fought win for Rea which has always proved a difficult place to get 3 points.
