Encouraging displays from Rearcross girls

Rearcross FC Girls U12'S travelled to Borrisokane FC grounds on Friday night last Feb 10th for a league fixture. This was a game of two halves, Rearcross were well in this game in the first half and fell behind to 2 pieces of individual skill from Borrisokane player of the match, Ciara Austin, who unleashed 2 pile drivers to the roof of the Rearcross net in quick succession and completely changed the complexion of this game. Rearcross had threatened the Borrisokane goalkeeper on a couple of occasions but as so often happens in games at all levels, these 2 strikes from Ciara Austin completely changed the flow of the game and were followed by 2 more Borrisokane goals just before half time.
Rearcross re grouped at half time and to the girl’s immense credit they battled gamely in the second half, forcing a succession of corners which on another day might have yielded a couple of goals. Rearcross performed excellently in the second half, getting much tighter on their opponents with all players delivering great performances. Some positional changes saw the Carr twins switch positions, with Maria moving to midfield, and Orla going to centre half partnering Aoibheann Devitt, and along With Shauna Carr the girls defended brilliantly. Maria Carr and Zara Maher battled bravely throughout , ably supported by Abbie, Lauren, Kate & Zofia. Our younger players Anna Kennedy and Ruth Johnstone along with Saoirse Guidera never gave up and this bodes well for them going forward.
Rearcross girls wish Borrisokane FC girls’ luck for the rest of the season, as they chase league honours, and special word of mention to Ciara Austin, who will be attending Ireland Girls assessment trials in the near future, this augurs well for girls’ underage soccer in North Tipperary.

Rearcross U-12 Girls: Kate Kennedy, Aoibheann Devitt, Maria Carr, Shauna Carr, Zara Maher, Orla Carr, Abbie Carroll, Zofia Kwiecenska, Lauren Hartnett, Anna Kennedy, Saoirse Guidera, Ruth Johnstone
