Munster Junior Shield exit for Rearcross ‘B’

Rearcross ‘B’ made the trip down south to face TSDL side Burncourt Celtic in the 2nd round of the Munster Junior Shield. Hopes were high for Rea after getting off to a good start in the league season. The game started very positively from a Rearcross perspective as they had the home side under pressure from the off creating plenty of chances while keeping Burncourt quiet on the attack thanks to a great display of defending from Eamonn Devitt and Sean Malone. Jack Nolan was also keeping the Burncourt defence on their toes with his countless runs in behind. His hard work was eventually rewarded in the 25th minute as he took down the ball perfectly to produce a perfect finish in what was Jack’s first junior goal for the club. The away side kept on top for the remainder of the half with David Brennan forcing a brilliant save from the Burncourt keeper. Rea went in 1-0 up at half time after a positive display of football.
The second half proved to be more of a challenge for the visitors as they were put under pressure from the start of the half. Burncourt scored an equaliser on 54 minutes when Brian Hammersley parried a shot from the edge of the box making it an easy finish for James Mulcahy. Things went from bad to worse for Rearcross when Burncourt were awarded a penalty due to a hand ball. Sean Morrissey stepped up and slotted his penalty down the middle. It was going to be an uphill battle from here on in for Rea with Sean Morrissey adding another to his tally in the 78th minute. David Collins then rounded up the scoring in the dying moments to send Burncourt through to the next round as comfortable 4-1 winners. Best of luck to Burncourt Celtic for the rest of the season.
