Rearcross bow out of FAI Junior Cup on narrow one nil scoreline

Poor weather prevailed at Palmers Hill this Sunday afternoon as Cashel Town played hosts to Rearcross FC. Rearcross FC, labelled by many as severe underdogs, made a great start to the fixture and moved the ball well in the first ten minutes. Cashel Town, who ply their trade in the Premier Division in South Tipp, began to get to grips with the game. Chances were hard to come by and Rearcross FC defended stoutly when called upon. James Deegan hit the side netting on one occasion. Stephen Rochford having a sight on goal following a break onto a loose ball midfield, but his rushed effort went over the top.
Tireless midfield work meant that Rearcross FC were picking up good positions after putting pressure on the Cashel Town defenders. A number of half chances came the way of both teams.
Cashel Town started the brighter in the second half and tried to move the ball quicker through the channels. The organization of the Rea men meant that very few passes broke the last line of defence. Darragh Kennedy came close with two very similar efforts, both bursting out from midfield before releasing a low drive towards the Cashel goals. Both were less than a foot past the post. Cathal Kennedy did not have many shots to save but made a vital block with his left hand when a dangerous ball took a wicked skid off the saturated turf. Cathal reacted well and saved the Rearcross FC defenders blushes.

With 10 minutes to go Cashel Town found a breakthrough. A ball over the top forced a Cashel attacker wide before he forced the ball towards the Rearcross FC net. Greg Kennedy managed to clear the ball off the line, but the Cashel Town players were quickest to react. A composed finish across the goals lead to Cashel Town going one nil to the good. Rearcross FC piled men forward in the final few minutes. All 11 Rearcross FC players flew forward for free kicks to try retrieve the game. Following a throw in deep in the Cashel Town half Robert Harrington broke onto a loose ball and fired in a curling effort. This veered just wide. Not to be for Rearcross FC who can be proud of their efforts. Paul Nolan, Kieran Devitt and Phillip Deegan ensured that there was constant pressure on the Cashel midfield, while Brian Nolan and Stephen Rochford executed their roles well on the wings.

Best of Luck to Cashel Town for the rest of their season.
