Rearcross ‘B’ unlucky to lose but Thomas Kennedy still scoring for Rea!

Rearcross ‘B’ travelled to Drombane to take on Clodiagh Rangers ‘B’ in this League fixture. Rearcross started brightly with Mike Feehan getting in a shot on goal in the first 3 minutes which was saved. Eight minutes in Rearcross were awarded a penalty when Colm Carey was fouled in the box and Mikey Feehan put the visitors 1 up with a well taken penalty. Clodiagh started to come into the game and had a decent chance on goal which was saved by Brian Hammersley in the Rearcross goal. Clodagh equalised on the 15th minute when a well delivered cross was finished to the net. Rearcross pressed hard for the lead with Mikey Feehan and Dave Brennan shooting over the Clodiagh goal. Clodiagh were awarded a penalty which was finished to the net to give the home side the lead. They then added a 3rd a short while later when an uncharacteristic mistake in the Rearcross defence saw the Clodiagh striker run through and finish to the net. Rearcross now with it all to do fought hard to get back into the game with Eamonn Devitt having his effort on goal go wide. Good play from Colm Carey and Aiden Bryan set up Dave Brennan whose effort also went wide. Clodiagh were unlucky not to add a 4th goal when the chipped effort went over the keeper but wide.
The second half started with Rearcross introducing 2 subs Max Carroll and Thomas Kennedy. A few minutes in, Rearcross were awarded a free which Gavin Denihan finished to the net to make it 3 - 2. Ten minutes later the Clodiagh keeper failed to hold a Rearcross shot and veteran striker Thomas Kennedy was quickest to react and finish to the net to make it 3 all. Both sides had chances to win the game with Clodiagh shooting over from a good scoring chance. While at the other end the Clodiagh keeper pulled off a great save from a Robbie Harrington header which was goal bound. Thomas Kennedy hit the post with his effort from near the end line. Gavin Denihan rolled an indirect free kick to Oisin Kelly who finished superbly to the net for Rearcross only for the ref to order it be taken again, but his effort went over second time round. Clodiagh were sure to have scored but for Brian Hammersley making a great save in the Rearcross goal. With 5 minutes remaining Clodiagh were awarded a free on the edge of the square which took a bad deflection of the Rearcross wall and found its way to the net. Rearcross almost equalised in the last kick of the game when Gavin Denihan hit the post from a free kick. It finished 4 - 3 to Clodiagh and disappointment for Rearcross who felt they should have got something from the game.
