Three nil win for Rearcross U-16 Boys in Glenbane

Rearcross U-16’s restarted their league campaign with an away match to Holycross last Saturday and it was the Slieve Felim men who started the brightest when Colm Hickey had the first shot on goal, but his half volley was just wide. Jack Nolan saw an effort brilliantly saved by Cian Campion in the Holycross goal after good link up play with Jonathan Dawson. Another Jack Nolan effort from outside the box had power but was just too high. Colm Hickey and Conor Carr were now dominating midfield and an effort by the latter was again well saved by Cian Campion. Rearcross thought they had scored when Liam Brett and Colm O'Meara linked up out on the right before the ball was played into Colm Hickey who passed on to Jonathan Dawson, the resulting effort was partially saved on the line before the Holycross keeper gathered on the second attempt. All the pressure exerted by Rearcross paid off when Liam Brett was upended in the box as Jack Nolan dispatched the spot kick to the back of the net. Rearcross's defence of Colm O’Meara, Oisin Reynolds, Paraic Carr and James Costello were immense in the first half as Paddy Ryan in the Rearcross goals was all but a spectator for most of the half to leave Rea 1 up at the half time whistle. The opening exchanges of the second half saw Holycross have a few efforts on the Rearcross goals. Tadhg Bourke had an effort go wide after connecting from a corner kick and then Paddy Ryan made a good save to deny Ned Dillon. This was a wakeup call for Rearcross who scored in the next passage of play. Liam Brett won the ball in midfield and played out wide to Colm O'Meara who passed to Colm Hickey who in turn beat his marker before playing a brilliant pass over the Holycross defence to Jack Nolan who raced through to bag his second of the day. It was all Rearcross at this stage as Jack Nolan let fly with another effort which wasn’t far away after being put through by Colm Hickey. Jonathan Dawson saw an effort gathered by the Holycross custodian and then Jack Nolan saw his strike hit the side netting after being played in by Oisin Reynolds. Rearcross did score a third as Jack Nolan completed his hattrick with aplomb after latching on to a ball from Jonathan Dawson to leave the visitors comprehensive winners on the day.
