Rearcross progress to Kevin Fogarty Tipperary Cup semi-finals
Rearcross were in action away against Knigh United in Tipperary Cup quarter final. Knigh who were recently crowned Division 2 champions had the potential to cause the Premier Division side some headaches. It was Rearcross who settled the quicker of the 2 teams and had an early chance to take the lead. Eoin Sheldon playing through James Deegan but his strike was well saved by the Knigh keeper. After this the game settled down, chances were few and
far between in the opening 20 minutes. The game exploded in life in a 2 minute spell that eventually saw the away side take the lead. Knigh swung in a corner from the left and Darren Moran headed it back across goal where Alan Flynn's looping effort came back off the crossbar. Almost immediately after Rea took the lead when a ball out from the back by Greg Kennedy found James Deegan who flicked it in over the top to Cillian Kennedy, Cillian scrambled the ball out to the onrushing Paddy Dawson who made no mistake with a low finish to the keepers near side. Just on the stroke of halftime Rea nearly added to their tally when a long ball in over the top from Paul Nolan found James Deegan but his effort was well saved by the keeper.
The start of the 2nd half saw Knigh pushing hard for the equaliser but they were finding it hard to break down a stubborn Rearcross defense. Alan Flynn going closest with a free kick from 25 yards out but his effort went the wrong side of the post. Rea would get that all important 2nd goal on the 70th minute mark. Great work on the left hand by James Deegan would see him get to the by line and his cross come shot was parried by the keeper and Cillian Kennedy was quickest to react to fire the ball into the net. Knigh should have pulled a goal back in the 80th minute when a corner found Darren Moran in the 6 yard box but his header went over the bar with the goal at his mercy. Rea had several chances to kill the game off with Eoghan Kavanagh going close on 2 occasions. Just on full time Rea produced their best move of the match. Good work down the left from Eoghan Kavanagh and Brian Nolan saw the ball whipped into the near post but Michael O Gorman's 1st time effort clipped the top of the bar and went over. A good win for Rearcross who move forward to the semi-final where they await the winners of BT Harps V Cloughjordan
