Rearcross 'A' bow out of Premier Division Cup

Rearcross were away to Moneygall in the Ricky Fogarty Cup on Sunday last. It was the home side who were quick out of the traps and were causing Rea problems from the off down the wings. Rea were playing a counter attacking game to try and unlock the Moneygall defense. After several corners for Moneygall they managed to take the lead on the 15th minute when an in-swinging corner saw a scramble on the goal line before Niall Maher poked the ball into the net. Rea responded well from going 1 nil down and on 2 occasions Cillian Kennedy went close to equalizing. The 1st saw Cillian latch onto a through ball from Brian Nolan but his shot was off target. The 2nd chance saw Rea transition from defense to attack when Paul Nolan found Michael O Gorman in the centre circle and he played a lovely through ball to Cillian Kennedy, whose strike just went the wrong side of the post. Next chance fell to Moneygall when a cross from the right saw Niall Maher peel to the back post but his header which seemed destined for the net was blocked on the line by Brian Nolan. The final chance of the half fell to the away side when a corner fell to Greg Kennedy but his goal bound effort was blocked on the line and cleared to safety. Rea would get off to the worst possible start in the 2nd half when they went 2 nil down. Following a through ball from Jayden Coughlan to Jack O Brien, Jack got a nice break from the defender and he slid the ball under the onrushing Cathal Kennedy. From here Rea pushed hard to get back into the game but they were finding it hard to breach the Moneygall defence. Michael O Gorman coming close when a lovely through ball from Paddy Dawson saw Michael flick the ball past the keeper but it hit the outside of the post and went wide. Moneygall ensured victory coming into stoppage time when Jack O Brien's strike just inside the area found its way to the net. A deserved victory on the day for the home side but could have been a different story had Rea taking some of the chances they had.
