Tipperary Cup exit for Rearcross 'A'

Rearcross FC made the journey to Portumna last Wednesday evening to take on Portumna Town in the Tipperary Cup. Rearcross disappointingly bowed out of the competition on a 3-2 scoreline. Portumna converted their chances from 3 long balls over the top which the Rearcross backline failed to deal with. Rearcross FC had the lions share of chances throughout the fixture. Adam Fogarty put Portumna 1-0 ahead when he latched onto a long ball. Greg Kennedy equalised for Rearcross FC after the Rea men recycled the ball well. Brian Nolan slipped the ball through the defence and Greg Kennedy slotted the ball low into the bottom corner. Rearcross were dominating at this stage and got a second when Darragh Kennedy burst through. It took a last ditch tackle to stop his run but James Deegan pounced on the rebound and drove the ball into the roof of the net. Portumna scored their second following another long ball. Portumna went into the break 3-2 up when yet another long ball made it's way into the box. The Portumna attacker collided with the Rearcross FC goalie and a penalty was awarded, which was dispatched successfully. Rearcross FC had plenty of chances to equalise and indeed win the game. Darragh Kennedy shook the goalposts when he rifled a low effort off the bottom of the post. Paddy Dawson had a few chances. He came closest with a header at the back post which ended up in the side netting. Greg Kennedy saw his effort saved by the Portumna goalkeeper. A number of crosses bounced inside the six yard box but Rearcross were unable to get the final touch on the ball to send it goalward. Robert Harrington found himself one on one with the Portumna goalkeeper and only for a wicked bounce off the uneven playing surface taking the ball into the goalkeepers arms he surely would have stroked the ball home. Paul Carey came up from the goals for a corner in the dying embers of the game. Carey got a firm connection and rattled the frame of the goals with a header. Rearcross FC had one last chance when Cillian Kennedy dug out a cross which was meant by Greg Kennedy. His headed effort went wide of the post. A disappointing result for Rearcross FC. Rearcross FC A now sit mid table at this stage with 2 games left to play. Rearcross FC are safe from relegation and have secured their Premier Division status confirmed for next season. Thanks to all who travelled to the game last Wednesday. Best of Luck to Portumna for the rest of the Season.
