Rearcross 'A' score late equalizer to take share of the spoils
Rearcross welcomed Ardcroney for the Premier Division tie. It was the home side who made the best possible start when a free from the left saw Paddy Dawson whip a great delivery into the 6-yard box where James Rochford was on hand to head into the corner of the net. The home side had their tails up now and could have doubled their lead on a few separate occasions only for some last ditch defending. Ardcroney started to gain a foothold in the game and found themselves level midway through the 1st half when Jamie Ryan lobbed the keeper from distance despite the home side calling for offside. 1 all at the break.
Ardcroney took the lead 5 minutes into the 2nd half when a mix up in the Rea defense saw Kieran Spain collect the ball and his pinpoint cross found Jamie Ryan at the back post who made no mistake with his headed effort. It was all the home side after this as they created chance after chance. Cillian Kennedy had the 1st opportunity hitting the post with a left footed strike with the keeper beaten. Following good work from both Cillian Kennedy and Michael O Gorman which saw them in behind the defence, however Michael's strike was turned round the post by the Ardcroney keeper when it seemed destined for the net. James Deegan found himself one on one with the keeper only for his low effort to be saved yet again. Rob Harrington had a pair of chances next the 1st a header from a corner which was blocked on the line by a combination of the keeper and defender. The next chance saw good work on the left by James Deegan who’s cross found Rob Harrington but his header went the wrong side of the post. Oisin Kelly had the next effort from inside the box but managed to hit the post with the rebound falling into the keepers’ arms. Rearcross got their just reward from the last play of the game, Ardcroney cleared the initial corner but the ball was recycled to Paddy Dawson and his cross found Eoghan Kavanagh and his looping header found the net despite the best efforts of the keeper and defender. The draw guarantees a 3rd place finish for Rearcross with 2 league games remaining.
