Share of spoils for Rearcross 'A' against Arra Rovers

Rearcross FC played host to Arra Rovers who travelled in large numbers filling the Away Dug Out to the brim. The game started at a frantic pace. Rearcross FC defended well when needed to, with Paul Carey making some vital interceptions when called upon. Nigel Ryan in the Rearcross goal had an extremely solid game throughout. Arra Rovers rattled the crossbar in the first half and had one or two more half chances. Rearcross FC had a couple of chances themselves, mostly of low crosses flashed across the Arra Rovers goal mouth. Chances were few throughout the game for both teams. As the game processed Rearcross FC found themselves creating more opportunities. With only one available substitute for Rearcross FC it looked like the abundance of players Arra Rovers brought may tip the tie in their favour as they used all 5 substitutes. This was not to be the case as Rearcross FC pushed forward in the final ten minutes in search of a goal. Claims for a penalty by the Rearcross FC players fell on deaf ears after a shot struck the arm of an Arra Rovers defender from close range. Rearcross FC had a series of corners and free kicks but failed to get the all important goal. Michael O Gorman had a low shot saved by the Arra Rovers goal keeper, with the on rushing Brian Hammersley narrowing missing the rebound. One last corner saw Michael O Gorman catch the delivery on the volley. Too good of a connection was made as the ball whizzed inches over the bar. Points shared in what was a very tight game.
