Rearcross advance in FAI Junior Cup with emphatic  win

Rearcross FC advance at the expense of a youthful Borrisoleigh FC side in the FAI Junior Cup. Rearcross FC welcomed Borrisoleigh to town last Friday night. In excellent playing conditions Rearcross put six passed the Borrisoleigh outfit. Borrisoleigh started brightly and had raw pace in many areas of the pitch. Once Rearcross FC got to grips with this they began moving the ball well. Patrick Dawson whipped a corner to the near post which was flicked over by Greg Kennedy in the early exchanges. Rearcross struck first with James Deegan converting for Rea on the 15th minute with Rearcross beginning to string a number of passes together. Patrick Dawson was hauled down on route to goal in the 30th minute. Patrick then doubled the advantage with a well struck free kick, whipped in with pace across the Borrisoleigh goalie and into the net. Robert Harrington made an appearance for the Rearcross men shortly into the second half and showed great composure and guile in the middle of the park to keep the tempo up. Borrisoleigh found it hard to deal with the pace of the game. Rearcross will be disappointed in conceding early in the second half when a lofted ball to the back post was not dealt with accordingly, allowing a Borrisoleigh front man poke the ball home. Rearcross put a further 4 goals passed the Borrisoleigh goalie. Michael O Gorman converted his first after Brian Nolan whipped a corner into the back post where Michael was on hand to smash home a diving header.  Cillian Kennedy got on the scoresheet when James Deegan broke away down the right flank and drove a low shot goalward. Cillian followed up on the resulting loose ball and finished to the roof of the net. Patrick Dawson forced his way into a bit of space outside the box and drove home a fifth for Rearcross FC before Michael O Gorman rounded off the scoring with a back post header. Borrisoleigh to their credit had a handful of chances, most coming from their pacey wing men. Jim Caplis was called into action during the half when he got a strong hand to a well struck free kick, turning the ball onto the crossbar before making a second save from an onrushing Borrisoleigh attacker. A solid performance from Jim throughout.
Thanks to the Rearcross FC Grounds group for having the pitch in pristine condition and to Kennedy's Bar for providing finger food after the game.
