Rearcross 'A' get league campaign off to winning start.

Rearcross welcomed Borroway Rovers for their opening league fixture of the 24/25 campaign. The opening 10 minutes was a cagey affair as both sides were trying the get a foothold in the game. After this Rearcross had the better of the opening half as they created numerous chances. The 1st chance of the night fell to James Deegan following a kick out from Cathal Kennedy which found Daragh O’Siochrú on the left wing. He played a great through ball to James Deegan who found himself one on one with the keeper who pulled off a good save low down to his right. Rea did however go 1 nil up five minutes later when Callum Wallace picked the ball up in defence and played a quick one two with Paddy Dawson, he then played a ball to the feet of James Deegan whose 1st touch took him away from the defender and his strike from just outside the box finished to the corner of the net. Rea had two further chances after this to make it 2 nil. Following a mazy run from Darragh O’Siochrú he found himself bearing down on goal but he seemed to lose his footing as he was taking his shot and it was a comfortable save for the keeper. Michael O’Gorman found himself one on one with the keeper next but his flicked effort was straight at him. For the remainder of the half Borroway enjoyed the larger spell of possession without really threatening the Rearcross goal.
The 2nd half saw Rearcross start brightly with some good passing interchanges and some strikes from outside the box which didn't test the Borroway keeper. Rea thought they had made it 2 nil when some good wing play saw the ball break out to Darragh O’Siochrú on the penalty spot and he blasted to the net, the ref however gave a free out for an infringement on the keeper. Darragh O’Siochrú would not have to wait long for his first Rearcross goal though. James Deegan got the ball on the right wing and played a ball across the box to Daragh O’Siochrú who finished to the net. Michael O’ Gorman soon made it 3 nil when a pinpoint long-range pass from Cathal Kennedy saw Michael O’Gorman spin his marker and he was in behind the defence, his powerful strike saw the ball finish to the roof of the net. Rearcross had a couple of more chances to extend their lead but failed to do so, the best of these was a long-range effort from Paddy Deegan which just flew over the bar.
Credit to Borroway who kept on going till the final minute and had the last chance of the match when a free kick was sent in from the right and the headed effort crashed off the crossbar.
Hard to pick any individual out from Rearcross as it was a good team performance from both the starting 11 and the strong bench that the Rearcross management team were able to call on.
