Rearcross ‘A’ kick off the New Year with 4-1 home win

After a slight hiatus Rearcross FC got back to playing matches this Friday evening under lights. BT Harps made the journey to Rea and battled well against a Rearcross FC A Team outfit. For the first time in a long while Rearcross FC had the majority of the panel available on the night. Rearcross FC dusted off the cobwebs of the festive period and got to grips with the game early in the first half. Rearcross FC moved the ball well and played to their strengths against a BT Harps side who physically dominated the Rearcross men. Michael O Gorman opened the scoring in the first half. After piercing through the defence on a number of occasions Michael O Gorman was rewarded for his efforts with a trademark finish. Darragh Kennedy added to the tally before the half time break when a long searching cross deep to the back post was not dealt with by the BT Harps defence. 2 nil to Rearcross FC at half time.
Rearcross FC had two chances in the first five minutes of the second half. Kieran Devitt dug out a cross after pirouetting through an onslaught of BT Harps tackles. Michael O Gorman shot just over from the resulting cross. Moments later Phillip Deegan delivered a dangerous cross which evaded the runners to the front post but broke to Conor Nolan who shot just wide. Darragh Kennedy added two more to his tally. The first being a drilled cross from a wide position that found its way to the net. His third was the pick of the bunch. After winning his own ball in the middle of midfield Kennedy burst into a few yards of space. A quick look up by Kennedy lead him to take aim at the BT Harps goal. A rifled effort flew over the head of the BT Harps custodian and into the corner of the net. Rearcross FC made a number of substitutions to see out the tie. Paul Carey came close with a long-range effort that almost caught the BT Harps keeper out of position. Cillian Kennedy made some great runs on the flank and was unlucky not to convert on a number of occasions. BT Harps threw everything they had at Rearcross and got a late consolation following a cleared corner. BT Harps had a number of corners throughout the game but failed to make any real impact. On this occasion BT Harps defender reacted quickest and sent a low drive goalward into the bottom corner. Best on the day were Paul Nolan and Brian Nolan who defended stoutly throughout the fixture. MOTM has to go to Darragh Kennedy, not only for his hat trick but for the monstrous amount of work he got through in midfield.
Rearcross FCs next fixture is away to College Corinthians of Cork City on Saturday. Best of Luck to all involved!
