Slender one nil win for Rea in tight encounter

Clodiagh Rangers visited Rearcross FC Grounds on Saturday night. Playing conditions were ideal for the occasion with the recent storm leaving the locality only hours before kick off. Rearcross FC started brightly and went in to the half time break with the scoreline at 0-0 having failing to convert any of their many chances. Cillian Kennedy, James Deegan and Michael O Gorman stretched the Clodagh Rangers defence on a number of occasions. Paul Nolan was solid in defence and made a number of vital challenges throughout. Rearcross FCs goal came early in the second half when Phillip Deegan and Greg Kennedy managed to gain territory in the Clodagh Rangers half before a sliced effort from Greg Kennedy saw the ball break to a Clodagh Rangers defender. A half cleared ball saw James Deegan bearing down on goal 15 yards out. Deegan made no mistake and curled the ball into the net. Rearcross FC could have had a number of goals on the night. Closest was Philip Deegan with a header at the back post which hit the side netting. Stephen Rochford and Brian Nolan were excellent for Rearcross providing cover on the wings while also adding their support going forward. Michael O Gorman, deployed in a slightly more conservative role covered vast amount of grass and made vital covering challenges in the final few minutes. Rearcross FC got their first win of the season but Clodagh Rangers had a limited number of chances themselves and looked dangerous at times. It's clear from the opening few fixtures that the NTDL Premier Division will be highly competitive this season with Rearcross FC picking up two draws and one win from their opening 3 fixtures.
