Away defeat for Rearcross 'A' in Roscrea

Rearcross 'A' ventured north to take on reining champions Killavilla United FC. The Roscrea based side would have been favourites for the tie. Killavilla United went ahead when a powerfully struck free kick took a deflection off the Rearcross FC wall before arrowing into the corner of the net. Cathal Kennedy in the Rearcross FC goal was called into action on a few occasions in the first half. Most notably when he made a great intervention with his feet. Following a delivery into the box from a wide free kick, Robert Harrington let fly on a loose ball in the Killavilla penalty area. A slight lack of direction steered the ball up and over the goal. Aidan Bryan caused the back line of Killavilla problems and had two half chances in the first half. These were made by selfless running on behalf of Aidan. Killavilla went two nil ahead with 2 minutes of the first half left. A loose ball broke to an on rushing Killavilla attacker who caught the ball right on the sweet spot. This effort flew into the top corner, despite the best efforts of Cathal Kennedy in goal who got a finger tip to it.
The second half saw Rearcross FC battle hard. Rearcross FC did not have an abundance of chances but did have two opportunities to grab what would have been so much more then a consolation. Oisin Kelly forced a good save from the Killavilla keeper when he found himself bearing down on goal. Rearcross FC battled hard and had to live off limited attacking opportunities. By the same token, Rea defended very well and did not allow Killavilla any clear sight of goal. Eamonn Wade and Robert Harrington ensured that the Killavilla attacks got so far and no further. Kieran Devitt once again covered every inch of the pitch disrupting any breaks. A final chance fell to Oisin Kelly, who on another day would have slotted the ball home after taking it past the Killavilla goalie. With the angle tightening and the ball in the air Oisin Kelly's effort was steered wide. Killavilla used their experience and ran out the clock with effective passing. Two nil the final score.
