The semi finals of the Ann Kennedy tournament took place in Rearcross on Tuesday night. Murroe overcame Newport in the 1st Semi Final to book their final spot and then it was between Rearcross and Pallasgreen to see who would join them. Rearcross started with an unchanged starting 11 from the 1/4 Final victory over Donohill. It was Pallasgreen who showed their intent from the start and found themselves 1 0 up with 5 minutes gone. A loose pass from Rearcross saw the attacker capitalise before sending a delightful chip over Cathal Kennedy in the Rearcross goals. Rearcross came much more into the game after and started to get on top. Rea created a number of chances but seemed to be a bit gun shy in front of goals, not taking the shot when the opportunity arose. Half time arrived with Pallas leading 1 0 but the management team of Rearcross were relatively happy. The stats were in Rearcross's favour but stats don't win matches. Rearcross took off in the second half where they had finished in the 1st and started to get on top all over the field. Rea kept probing for the equaliser and got their reward with 15 minutes left when Greg Kennedy was upended in the box from a corner. The same man stepped up and rifled an unstoppable penalty into the bottom corner sending the keeper the wrong way. The game was 1 1 approaching full time and penalties were looking the most likely outcome but Rea had different ideas. A lovely move down the right hand side involving Conor Nolan and Jake Slattery saw the ball played out to James Deegan who send a dangerous low ball where James Rochford timed his run to perfection before finishing coolly under the keeper. 2 1 is how it finished and another good performance from a youthful Rearcross side. The final takes place in Rearcross Friday evening at 7.30 with all support greatly appreciated. Medal presentation and Rearcross FC end of year awards will take place in Kennedys of Rea following the match.
