Convincing home win for Rearcross 'B'

Rearcross ‘B’ hosted Ballymackey ‘B’ in a midweek league fixture with both teams struggling for form. Both sides looked a threat early in the game however, it was Rea who struck first when Mikey Feehan got his head on the end on a Gavin Denihan free kick to put the hosts ahead after 15 mins. Only ten minutes later Gavin Denihan would get his name on the scoresheet for the first time on the night when he produced a magnificent finish from outside the box which found its way over Paraic Bergin’s head and into the net. Brian Hammersley was then called into action at the other end of the pitch when Eamonn White struck a good free kick over the wall only for it to be saved by the Rearcross keeper. Gavin Denihan secured his brace in the 33rd minute to give Rearcross a sense of security, as a long ball from Brian Hammersley was flicked on by Mikey Feehan and Gavin made no mistake in guiding the ball over the head of the onrushing keeper. Gavin Denihan then completed a first half hattrick in the 43rd minute when Matty Feehan played a great ball over the top and a Ballymackey defensive mix-up allowed Denihan to finish into an empty net to send Rea in 4-0 to the good at half time. Mikey Feehan took no time to settle into the second half as he added another to Rea’s tally in the 47th minute when he won the ball off a Ballymackey defender and slotted home. Max Carroll went on to get his first of the night in the 65th minute when he received the ball about 25 yards from goal and set it up perfectly for himself to have a go which ended up in the back of the net. Ballymackey would go on to score a consolation goal when Eamonn White found the run of David Shanahan who made no mistake in converting. Max Carroll would go on to round up the scoring for the day when he scored yet another goal from outside the box as his shot looped in over the headed of the Ballymackey keeper to see Rearcross run out 7-1 winners, in what was a very convincing performance leading into this weekend’s tough test against Premier Division strongholds, BT Harps ‘A’.
