Rearcross 'B' hold league leaders in entertaining draw

Rearcross entertained Borrisokane on Thursday night in which proved to be an evenly fought contest. Borrisokane were quick out of the traps and made the early running in this contest and only for some wayward shooting they could have taken an early lead. Gary Ryan doing a lot of Borrisokane's good work as he was floating between the Rearcross defence and midfield. Rearcross settled into the tie with Paddy Carey having a header that went over the bar and Oisin Kelly also coming close. Their best chance of the half fell to Mikey Feehan when he beat 3 defenders but his right footed effort just went the wrong side of the post. Borrisokane did manage to take the lead in the 30th minute when they were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, up stepped Gary Ryan and his curling effort gave Brian Hammersley no chance. 1 nil at the break but still all to play for.
The opening 10 minutes of the 2nd half saw the game completely turn on its head as Borrisokane were reduced to 10 men and Rearcross scored a quickfire double. The equaliser came when Mikey Feehan picked up the ball in the middle of the field and drove at the defense and he played a pass into the feet of Paddy Carey who flicked it out to Colm Carey, his 1st time cross was spilled by the keeper and Oisin Kelly was on hand to knock home the rebound. Four minutes later it was Rea who got their 2nd of the night. A brilliant move saw Donnie O Brien go on a mazy run from the middle of the field and he fed the ball out to Paddy Carey on the right wing, his ball across to edge of the box saw Mikey Feehan step over the ball to leave it for the onrushing Rob Harrington whose 1st touch knocked it past the defender and his low strike back across the keeper found the corner of the net. A great team goal. To their credit Borrisokane did not lie down and in the 65th minute forced an equalizer. A long free kick into the Rearcross box found its way to James Hough who flicked the ball past the post. Both sides huffed and puffed to try and get the winner and it was the home side that had the 2 best chances in injury time of the match. An angled free kick from Donnie O Brien saw Rob Harrington climb highest at the back post but his header was saved at the near post by the keeper. From the resulting corner Eamon Wade rose highest but his goal bound header went just over the bar. 2 all is how it finished in what was an entertaining game played in awful weather conditions.
