Rearcross 'B' on the right side of an eleven-goal thriller!!
Rearcross ‘B’ hosted Borrisokane ‘B’ in this league fixture under lights on Friday night. The game started with a minute’s silence for Rody Kennedy who died recently RIP. Borrisokane got in the first attack in the opening minute, but Brian Hammersley was quick off his line to smother the attack. Rearcross took the lead in the 3rd minute when a Gavin Denihan free found its way to the net. The home side were 2 up five minutes later when Gavin Denihan finished with a fine strike to the corner of the net. Cillian Kennedy and Donny O'Brien both had shots in on goal for Rearcross but failed to find the net. Oisin Kelly swung in a corner for Rearcross only to have it cleared off the line. Borrisokane chances were limited to a couple of frees both of which went wide. Rearcross made it 3 nil when good work from Aidan Bryan and Donny O'Brien found Oisin Kelly who finished to the net. Borrisokane had a good effort which hit the side netting. Gavin Denihan sealed his hat trick just before the half ended when his effort found the net to make it 4 nil.
Borrisokane were not done and started the second half with any early goal with a well struck shot from the wing. Rearcross responded straight away when Donny O'Brien found Cillian Kennedy who finished superbly to make it 5-2. Borrisokane were awarded an indirect free kick in the Rearcross box which the scored to reduce the gap to 3 goals. Borrisokane went to score 2 more goals in quick succession to put only 1 goal between the sides. Rearcross fought on with Cillian Kennedy's cross finding Matt Feehan whose shot was saved. However, it was Borrisokane who scored next after a well worked goal made it 5 all. Again, Rearcross dug deep and a well struck corner from Oisin Kelly found man of the match Gavin Denihan who headed brilliantly to the net to make it 6-5 to Rearcross. Borrisokane went on to hit the crossbar and miss a penalty in the last few minutes but the Congo Bar sponsored Rearcross ‘B’ held out and were delighted to finish winners.
The goal that was!! and Rearcross FC Grounds VAR!!, Gavin Denihan's 3rd strike was somewhat disputed by the visitors, but video footage showed the ball hit the net and not the crossbar, well done to Gavin who netted 4 goals in a memorable win for Rea
