Shield exit for Rearcross 'B'
Rearcross 'B' bowed out of the 2nd Division Shield on Saturday evening against newcomers Borrisoleigh AFC following a sabbatical out of the NT&DL. The tie was played at Bilboa Sports Grounds as pitch in Rearcross was recently sanded / seed stitched and out of use presently. Nevertheless, the lob sided scoreline doesn't reflect fairly on the game and the Rea boys will rue not making use of chances created in the open half, but instead it was the visiting side which held a 2 nil advantage at the half time whistle with goals coming in the 25th and 35th minute respectively. Rearcross finished the half strongly with Aidan Bryan forcing a fine save out of the visiting custodian and then Oisin Kelly was unlucky to shoot narrowly over.
Borrisoleigh pressed at the start of the second half and stretched their lead with a well worked goal. Rearcross rallied and pegged one back when Oisin Kelly hit the target with a fine finish following an assist from Aidan Bryan. The away side upped the ante and ran out comfortable winners in the end. It was a baptism of fire for up and coming goalkeeper Brian Hammersley who was playing his debut game in the NT&DL and despite the scoreline, the young shot stopper still made a string of fine saves and certainly has a bright future in the Rea colours.
Rearcross 'B': Brian Hammersley, Ger O'Toole, Anthony Ryan, Mike O'Grady, Thomas Kennedy, Derek O'Toole, Oisin Kelly, Dave Brennan, Mikey O'Connell, Aiden Bryan, William Horrigan.
Subs: Felim Deegan, Paul Carey (both used)
