Curtain comes down on a very worthwhile season for Rearcross ‘B’

Rearcross 'B' hosted Borrisoleigh in what was their last game of the season. Rearcross pressed hard for the opening goal with Willie Horrigan shooting wide and a Gavin Dinahen free fly over the crossbar. The Rearcross side were playing below their usual high tempo and conceded a goal on the 30th minute. Rearcross pressed hard for the equalizer with full back Sean Hickey making 2 great runs into the Borrisoleigh penalty area but for his final pass intercepted and cleared. The second half saw a much better performance from the home side and came close to scoring when Willie Horrigan had his shot saved and Mikey O'Connell almost got on to the end of the resulting Dave Brennan corner. Gary O' Brien came on for Sean Hickey and had a great effort saved by the Borrisoleigh keeper. The resulting corner was headed narrowly over by Gavin Dinahen. Rearcross were playing much better now and again won another corner which was again narrowly headed wide by Anthony Ryan who didn't get the contact he had hoped for. Gavin Dinahen put through a great pass for Diarmuid Rock whose effort was thwarted by the oncoming Borrisoleigh keeper. Thomas Kennedy got behind the Borrisoleigh defence and saw his lobbed effort put out for a corner by the finger tips of the Borrisoleigh keeper. Rearcross won a couple of more corners with Gary O'Brien and Diarmuid Rock getting efforts in on goal but with no success. The game finished with Rearcross loosing 1 nil but the home side put up another good performance and were unlucky not to come away with something from the game. It was a very successful season for the Congo bar sponsored side under the management of Paul Carey despite no silverware to show.
