Rearcross ‘B’ lose out to Clodiagh Rangers

Rearcross welcomed Clodiagh Rangers ‘B’ in near perfect conditions for this league encounter played on Saturday evening. Both teams made a good start without creating clear cut opportunities. The away team took the lead on the half hour mark when a well delivered corner kick saw the ball break to Jim O’Dwyer who rifled to the top corner. Rearcross then changed formation and were hit with a sucker-punch 2 minutes later when a well worked ball saw Michael Quinlan finish well to the corner of the net. A 2 nil scoreline at halftime was harsh on Rea as they had a lot of the play and on the stroke of half-time Nigel Ryan came close to pulling a goal back, firing just wide from inside the area.
Fresh from a few stern words at halftime, Rea pulled a goal back after Anthony Ryan broke out from the back and played the ball to Rob Harrington who turned and played a lovely one two with Kieran Devitt and then slipped Kieran in with a through ball who finished to the net with a low strike. Clodiagh were under pressure at this stage but a mix up at the back restored their two-goal lead through Oisín Treacy. Clodiagh went on to score their 4^th goal when Jim O’Dwyer bagged his second of the evening to kill the game off. Credit to Rearcross though, as they kept battling until the final whistle and were rewarded when a shot from Donny O Brien was spilled by the keeper before Robert Harrington followed up to finish to the net. There was one final chance for the hosts when Willie Mackey took a free from halfway, Rob Harrington held his run to stay onside but fired just over to leave the Drombane side with maximum points on this occasion.
