Third win on the trot for Rearcross ‘B’
Rearcross ‘B’ hosted Sallypark ‘B’ on Saturday night in the 2nd Division league. It was Sallypark who started the game the well with David Young causing trouble dropping in between the Rea midfield and defence. Sallypark had the opening chance when Jack Hogan was played in but his strike was off target. Sallypark at this stage were doing all the attacking but were met with a resolute back four and Brian Hammersley in goals pulled off a few good saves. Rea did create a chance of their own before halftime when Mikey Feehan collected the ball on the left wing and his pin point cross found Paddy Carey but his first time effort went the wrong side of the post.
The halftime team talk seemed to work for Rea as they came out a different team. They nearly took the lead straight from the kick off when a great through ball from Gary Ryan found Colm Carey in the box but his effort just went past the post. The next chance fell to Mikey Feehan when the ball broke to him in the box from a corner but his effort crashed against the crossbar. The chances kept coming for Rea and it was Gary Ryan who nearly put the hosts one up. Following a quick one too with Mikey Feehan, Gary found himself one on one with the keeper but with the goal at his mercy his strike went just past the post. Rea did manage to take the lead with 12 minutes remaining. A quick counter attack saw Paddy Carey collect the ball in the middle and he played the ball out to Oisín Kelly who found Mikey Feehan in the box but his strike crashed off the bar, Paddy Carey was quickest to react and his first time volley found the back of the net. Sallypark rallied though and nearly got the equaliser when Jack Hogan beat the offside trap only for Brian Hammersley to pull off a great save. Rea nearly doubled the lead when the ball broke to Rob Harrington in the box and his audacious overhead kick clipped the top of the bar and went over with the keeper beaten. Another good win for Rea in what was a hard-fought game.
