Eventual 1-0 win for Rearcross ‘B’ after hitting the woodwork 4 times!

Rearcross ‘B’ played Sallypark ‘B’ in this league fixture under lights in Rearcross on a very cold Friday night. It was an entertaining game with loads of chances from both sides but only one goal. Rearcross started well with Dave Brennan finding Oisin Kelly with a super pass but the shot drifted over. Oisin Kelly turned provider after good work from himself and Donny O'Brien saw Oisin Kelly put a superb ball across the box but there was no one there to finish it to the net. Sallypark had their chances too, but shooting wide and the Rearcross defence holding out with the help of Brian Hammersley in goal. Kieran Devitt came close for Rearcross when Thomas Kennedy found him in the Sallypark danger area but the defenders did enough to put Kieran Devitt off and his effort went wide, while William Mackey had a good long-range effort saved by the Sallypark keeper. Sallypark were awarded a penalty 15 minutes before the break but Brian Hammersley made a super save in the Rearcross goal to keep it at nil all.
The second half started with Rearcross making a couple of changes introducing Mikey Feehan and Gary Ryan to the game. The home side came close to scoring within the first 10 minutes when Rob Harrington with a glancing header hit the woodwork and Kieran Devitt shot over. Rearcross hit the woodwork three more times after this. Mark Hogan hit the crossbar from a free kick 25 yards out and Mikey Feehan hit the post after good work from him in the box. Sallypark were still in the game and pressed hard to go in front with them also hitting the crossbar and again Brian Hammersley coming off his line to make a save. The only goal came after the seventy-minute mark when Rob Harrington found Callum Wallace who unleashed a super strike from 20 plus yards which beat the keeper and hit the net. Callum Wallace went on to hit the post after this with a good effort from the right-hand side. Sallypark didn't give up though and piled on the pressure in the closing stages winning three corners but the Congo Bar sponsored side held out to record a much needed victory.
