Divide of the spoils for Rearcross ‘B’

Rearcross ‘B’ played host to Shinrone United ‘B’ under the lights last Friday night. Rearcross started the brighter of the two sides and were rewarded early on when a Brian Hammersley long ball was taken down well by Mikey O’Gorman, who played a one-two with Brian Nolan and then found the run of Mikey Feehan, who made no mistake in slotting it past the Shinrone keeper to put the hosts 1-0 up. Rea kept pushing for another with Mikey O’Gorman and Mikey Feehan combining well up front to create multiple chances, only to be denied by Shinrone keeper, Graham Fahy. The game took a dramatic turn just before half-time when Paul Ryan saw red after making a goal-line clearance, which came up and hit his arm. Shinrone were awarded a penalty, which Eoghan McLoughlin stepped up and converted, putting the game in the balance at half-time.
This changed Rea’s approach to the game massively, being forced to switch to a 4-3-2 formation. The home side didn’t seem phased by the numerical disadvantage and kept on top of Shinrone in the second half. Rea were awarded a free inside their own half on the 60th minute mark, which Brian Hammersley delivered into the Shinrone box. It eventually landed at the feet of none other than Mikey O’Gorman, who finished calmly into the net. Unfortunately for Rearcross, Shinrone’s one man advantage eventually took its toll on the game as Oisin Keeshan pulled one back for the visitors in the last 10 minutes to level proceedings. Rea didn’t let this kill off their fight as efforts from both Gavin Denihan and Mikey Feehan in injury time would produce two magnificent saves from Graham Fahy, who would ultimately be man of the match on the night.
