Hard fought win for Rearcross 'B'

Rearcross ‘B’ were hosts to Templetuohy FC in this Second Division League game on Sunday afternoon. The home team claimed all three points on offer with a 1-0 victory. Rea started the brighter of the two sides with some good passing and finding players in space, creating but unable to convert a number of chances in the opening stages. Templetuohy were also unlucky not to convert when a passage of direct play found their striker in open space in front of the Rearcross goal, but this chance was quickly smothered out by the Rearcross rearguard. The deadlock was finally broken on 31 minutes when a Robert Harrington delivered free kick found its way direct to the back of the net. Rearcross were unlucky not to double their advantage early in the second half when they were awarded a penalty after a Templetuohy defender handled the ball inside the box. The resulting penalty kick saw a fine save from the keeper. Both teams piled on the pressure for the remainder of the game but good work from both defences and keepers kept the score line at 1-0, with Brian Hammersley making a number of saves and catches to earn the young net minder another clean sheet to his name. Rearcross B will be very happy with a well-deserved win on their home turf.
