Thurles Town claim maximum points against Rearcross ‘B’

Rearcross hosted Thurles Town in this league fixture on Sunday. Despite the heavy rain that fell during the night and early morning the Rearcross pitch was in great condition and credit to the grounds group for that. The first half was a good physical contest with Rearcross having a lot of the possession but finding hard to find the net. Dave Brennan and Thomas Kennedy shooting over for the home side. Thurles had a good effort on goal but Brian Hammersley did well in the Rearcross goal to keep it out. Rearcross almost scored when Callum Wallace crossed in a corner with Rob Harrington and Kieran Devitt battled hard to get it over the line but the referee deemed a foul was committed by Rearcross and the chance was gone.
The second half started as the first half finished with Rearcross pressing hard for the opening goal. Callum Wallace with a free that was saved and Eamonn Devitt with a shot at the back post that was blocked. Rob Harrington and Kieran Devitt working really hard in the Rearcross midfield and Kieran came really close to scoring for Rearcross when his header came off the crossbar. However in the last 20 minutes a lapse in concentration from the home side allowed Thurles Town to score twice within 6 minutes through J Bolger and Tommy Brophy. Thurles went on to add 2 more goals before full time one from a corner which was headed to the net and the final goal in the last minute was a fine strike by C Ryan from outside the box. A disappointing result for Rearcross despite putting in a good performance for most of the game .
