Rearcross 'B' lose out by odd goal in three at home

Rearcross ‘B’ faced Birdhill on a wet and windy Sunday morning at home. Birdhill started the brighter, going ahead after 3 minutes and controlled the game for the first 10 minutes. Rearcross got the ball on the ground and grew into the game, taking control of the tempo. This led to a succession of corners for the home team. Oisin Kelly and Colm Carey provided good deliveries but it was Oisín Kelly who assisted Mikey Feehan after the keeper failed to deal with his delivery. Rearcross had a couple of more chances in the first half. The best of them falling to Oisín Kelly who struck from outside the box but the keeper pulled off a good save to stop the ball going into the top corner. At the stroke of halftime, the Birdhill stopper denied Mikey Feehan of a long-range effort destined for the bottom corner. Rearcross started the brighter in the second half and had plenty of chances but couldn’t get the ball on target. Colm Nolan came close when a corner broke to him on the edge of the box that was blocked by an onrushing defender. Rearcross failed to deal with a corner in the 70th minute that went directly into the net. A flurry of corners for Rearcross followed but they failed to convert as Birdhill held out for the win. Donnacha O’Brien and Gary Ryan were industrious for Rearcross in the middle of the pitch all day with Eamonn Wade and Willie Mackey making some great last-ditch tackles. A great performance by all, Rearcross unlucky with the scoreline.
