Rearcross Ladies lose out to strong Peake Villa side

Rearcross FC Ladies played host to a strong Peake Villa side last Saturday lunchtime. Rearcross FC fell behind in the opening minute with Peake Villa starting the fastest. Rearcross made their way into the game and struck back 3 minutes later when the Rea Ladies managed to work the ball up the pitch before a low cross found Clodagh Sheldon who got in front of her marker to slot the ball into the bottom corner. One of the Rearcross Ladies' best goals since their recent reform. Peake Villa struck again and went 2-1 ahead. To their credit, Rearcross FC managed to grab an equalizer after breaking through the middle Rearcross were awarded a free in a central area. Chloe O Brien stepped up and smashed home the free. It remained 2-2 until the final few minutes of the first half when Peake Villa scored three quickfire unanswered goals despite some excellent defending at times from the Rearcross Ladies. Rearcross FC had the majority of the defending to do throughout the game and Noreen Devitt made two saves in quick succession to keep out a certain goal 8 minutes into the second half. Peake Villa managed to get two more goals during this period before Rearcross FC had a flurry of chances. First was Aimee Johnsons effort that whacked the upright after she broke past her opponent. Clodagh Sheldon will feel hard done by after she put the ball into the back of the Peake Villa net, but this was rightly brought back as the ball had gone out of play on the build up to this. Rearcross FC got their 3rd goal of the afternoon when Jayne Ronayne reacted quickest to a loose ball in the Peake Villa box and slotted home from close range. With 10 minutes left to go Shauna O Brien made a great save in the Rearcross FC net. Rearcross did have another free kick opportunity. This time Chloe O Brien’s effort was bravely saved on the line by the Peake Villa goalie. Peake Villa added 2 more goals in the final 2 minutes to round off the scoring. Many thanks to Peake Villa for travelling despite the less than ideal conditions. A very worthwhile outing for the Rearcross FC Ladies who enjoyed playing against such strong opposition.
