Rearcross U-12 Girls presented with new Kit before playing out entertaining friendly

Rearcross U12 girls played Cappamore in a friendly in Rearcross on Wednesday evening in Rearcross. On a lovely evening for football, Rearcross settled the fastest and began to pass the ball around , finding green shirts and pressing the Cappamore defence trying to find an opening. Our back three of Zofia Wieciensika, Aoibheann Devitt and Lauren Hartnett repelled any Cappamore attacks and stylishly counter attacked, bringing the ball into the Opposition half time after time. The opening goal came from such a move with Shauna Carr winning the ball in midfield, who found Abbie Carroll in a bit of room who in turn passed to Aoibheann Devitt, who had ventured up from the back, and unleashed a low right footed effort which found the back of the Cappamore net from distance. As has been the norm all season and with a panel of 15, Rearcross made changes, bringing on some of our younger players who are underage next year and in some cases 2 years so they can gain experience. All girls played really well and were un lucky not to score again. In an evenly contested game, Cappamore got a goal before half time with a fine effort from one of their midfielders which Saoirse Guidera in the Rearcross goal could do nothing about. Our younger players of Ruth Johnson, Lauren Ryan and the impressive Chloe Quinlan ran at the Cappamore defence and were assured in possession, never wasting a ball. Anna Kennedy, playing up front in the second half, linked the play really well between midfield and strikers and grew in confidence as the game went on.
The second half was a very evenly contested affair, both sides playing really well, stringing passes together and moving the ball really well. As always the Carr sisters Orlaith and Maria fought hard for every ball, flying into tackles and impressively passing it around, Abbie Carroll stylishly linked the play from defence to attack throughout. Zara Maher bombed up and down the field all evening, clearing her lines and delivering balls into dangerous areas in the Cappamore half. Shauna Carr was assured in possession and always looking to pass the ball forward and create chances. Highlight of the second half was a screamer of a goal, from a Kate Kennedy left footed free kick, a goal good enough to grace any stage. This was a vital goal in that it was the equaliser to peg back Cappamore who had taken the lead in the early stages of the second half, Rearcross had a few chances which they were unlucky with, both Kate Kennedy and Aoibheann Devitt having shots from distance which only barely went over. The girls showed their versatility by taking turns in goal and our starting goalie Saoirse Guidera going up front and putting in an impressive shift up there, Annie Browne making her debut also played very well. Cappamore goal scorers were Abbey Mulcahy, Molly O'Dwyer and Luba Shvaibovich

Rearcross FC Girls are very grateful to Ann Kennedy and Rody( RIP) for their kind sponsorship of a full kit of jerseys, socks and togs, for this our first year, entering a girls team in North Tipperary League Ann presented the girls with their new kit just before the game.

Finally many thanks to Cappamore for a very evenly contested game and to Derek O Toole for refereeing.
