Depleted Rearcross U-13 Girls lose out to Borrisokane

Rearcross U13 girls played Borrisokane girls in Rearcross on Saturday morning last October 21st in Rearcross. Rearcross playing minus 3 regulars from our starting 11 were up against it in this game, but however settled the fastest and began to pass the ball around ,finding green shirts and pressing the Borrisokane defence trying to find an opening. Our back three of Lauren Ryan, Aoibheann Devitt and Lauren Hartnett repelled any Borrisokane attacks and stylishly counter attacked, bringing the ball into the Opposition half time after time. This was a nip and tuck encounter for 25 minutes, with nothing between the sides.
It was evenly contested and there was 2 to 3 opportunities for Rearcross through Saoirse Guidera, Kate Kennedy and Abbey Carroll which unfortunately didn't yield a goal. As happens in football at all levels, Borrisokane created a few opportunities before half time and cruelly punished Rearcross, clinically scoring 3 goals in a 5 minute spell.
Rearcross didn't drop their heads and fought valiantly in the second half, never giving up, with 2 of our younger girls Ava Wieciensika and Eve Richardson both 9, coming into the fray and battling gamely. All Rearcross girls played really well, and were unlucky not to score in this game. Borrisokane are a fine side with some outstanding players and were the physically stronger team, highlight of this game was a stunning strike from Borrisokane's Ciara Austin in the second half who scored a stunning goal from 30 yards into the roof of the Rearcross net, this is a player whom I'm sure we will hear a lot more of. Zara Maher bombed up and down the field all day for Rearcross clearing her lines and delivering balls into dangerous areas in the Borrisokane half. Shauna Carr was assured in possession and always looking to pass the ball forward and create chance as was Abbie Carroll in midfield. Chloe Quinlan was very assured on the ball and rarely misplaced pass. Kate Kennedy ran hard at the Borrisokane defence and had a few efforts on the Borrisokane goal. The girls showed their versatility by taking turns in goal and our starting goalie Ruth, going up front and putting in an impressive shift up there, again a younger player with 3 years at this level.
