Understrength Rearcross U-13 Girls lose to Lough Derg ‘A’

Rearcross U13 girls played Lough Derg girls in Rearcross on Saturday morning last, March 23rd in Rearcross. Rearcross playing minus 3 regulars from our starting 11 were up against it in this game, but however settled the fastest and began to pass the ball around, finding green shirts and pressing the Lough Derg defence trying to find an opening. Our back three of Zara Maher Aoibheann Devitt and Shauna Carr repelled any Lough Derg attacks and stylishly counter attacked, bringing the ball into the Opposition half time after time. This was a nip and tuck encounter for 25 minutes, with nothing between the sides. It was evenly contested and there was 2 to 3 opportunities for Rearcross through Kate Kennedy and Abbey Carroll which unfortunately didn’t yield a goal. Lough Derg created a few opportunities before half time and cruelly punished Rearcross scoring 2 goals in a 5-minute spell against the run of play. Rearcross didn’t drop their heads, this was a nip and tuck game, with the Rearcross defence and our youngest player in goals (Ewa Wieciensika, aged 10) steadfastly defending their goals and our midfielders driving forward at every opportunity, Rearcross were very unlucky not to score thru Kate Kennedy and Zofia Wieciensika. All Rearcross girls acquitted themselves really well, out of a panel of 15, 11 are underage for U13 level again for next season Aoibheann Devitt cleared ball after ball throughout this game ably assisted by Zara Maher bombing up and down the field all day for Rearcross, clearing her lines and delivering balls into dangerous areas in the Lough Derg half. Shauna Carr was assured in possession and always looking to pass the ball forward and create chances as was Abbie Carroll in midfield. Kate Kennedy and Saoirse Guidera ran hard at the Lough Derg defence and had a few efforts on the Lough Derg goal. Zofia Wieciensika, Anna Kennedy and Ruth Johnson worked tirelessly all day against stronger and more physical opponents, with Zofia in particular impressing.
