Delightful performance from Rearcross U-13 Girls over Shinrone

Rearcross U13 Girls welcomed Shinrone U13 Girls to Rearcross last Saturday for a noon kick off. This game was played in great dry conditions on a weekend of very inclement weather. Rearcross settled the fastest and with Lauren Hartnett and Aoibheann Devitt dominating from the back, this was the launch pad for many early attacks. Zofia Kwiecinska and Kate Kennedy both had early efforts before Zofia rattled the Shinrone net from a great run from midfield. Zara Maher and Chloe Quinlan were winning a lot of ball in midfield and were turning providers for the hard running Zofia Kwiecinska and Kate Kennedy, ably assisted by Maria Collins in centre midfield who cleverly broke up play and made some great passes forward. Rearcross got 2 more goals from Zofia Kwiecinska before halftime after some good work from our dogged defence of Ruth Johnson and the already mentioned Aoibheann Devitt and Lauren Hartnett, who time and again thwarted Shinrone attacks. Credit to the Shinrone girls who worked and fought hard throughout and were unlucky not to hit the net but for the aforementioned defenders and the ever-reliable goalkeeping of Ewa Kwiecinska at 10 years of age. Shinrone battled gamely into the second half and Rearcross rang the changes with the introduction of 3 ten-year olds, Ellie O Gorman (who showed some lovely touches throughout) Sarah Jane Caplis who follows in her dad’s footsteps in goal and Eve Richardson in midfield. Emma Nolan who's not yet 10, made her debut up front and didn't look out of place. Anna Kennedy and Anna Butler were willing runners all day on either flank and broke through on a number of occasions. Lauren Hartnett and Aoibheann Devitt pushed into midfield in the second half in positional switches with Lauren Hartnett grabbing our 4th goal and Aoibheann Devitt hitting the side netting from a great run forward. Great credit to Shinrone who battled hard throughout and, on another day, may have grabbed a few goals. Well done to Rearcross and our younger debutants on a good victory.
