Rearcross U-13’s grind out narrow 2-1 win

Rearcross U-13’s welcomed league leaders Borrisokane to Rearcross on Fri evening and dug deep to grind out a 2-1 win. The visitors made the brighter start and hit the front when Oscar Scales out ran the Rearcross rear-guard before coolly dispatching past Darragh Reynolds. Rearcross started to command affairs for the rest of the match and a dangerous corner from Jonathan Dawson saw the ball fall to Patrick Carr who was luckless to see his effort barely blocked out. The incessant pressure paid off when a brilliant move started in midfield involving Patrick Carr and Michael Collins released Conor Nolan who gave a perfectly waited pass to the on-rushing Jonathan Dawson who made no mistake from inside the box to leave it all square at the half time whistle.
Rearcross put Borrisokane on the backfoot from the restart and an effort from Conor Nolan was just wide and then Conor Nolan had another great effort saved by the keeper after Jonathan Dawson put him through. The Rearcross defence of Andrew Hanley, Stephen Ryan, Jack Hickey and James Costello were immense throughout, which was a great platform for Rearcross to set up numerous attacks and from one such attack, Ryan Quigley was robbed to see his effort hit the bottom right-hand side of the post. Ciaran McLoughlin also got in on the act with a well struck effort which was just wide and then a Jonathan Dawson free kick pulled wide of the mark in the 50th minute. Borrisokane tried to hit Rearcross on the counter and got through in the 57min, but a brilliant full stretch save by Darragh Reynolds kept the scoreline intact. Conor Nolan who had been a thorn in Borrisokane’s defence all through, used his speed and skill to latch on to a Jonathan Dawson through ball before the Borrisokane keeper advanced and fouled. Johnathon Dawson stepped up to convert the resulting penalty with aplomb. The Rea boys defended gallantly in the last five minutes to earn a brilliant win over the League leaders.
