Pre-season defeat for understrength Rearcross outfit
Rearcross FC welcomed Geraldines AFC of the Limerick District League to Rearcross on Sunday morning as part of both teams’ pre-season preparations. The hosts lined out with a mix of A and B team players in what would prove to be a tough test. Geraldines controlled the tempo of the game from the off with some well worked moves. They managed to break the deadlock after about 15 minutes when former Irish Junior international Eoin Hanrahan cut inside onto his right foot and curled a shot into the far corner of the net. Rea struggled to gain a foothold in the game, however Conor Nolan came close to scoring when his shot hit the crossbar and then bounced off the line after a mazy run. This was about as close as Rea would get in the game as they went in trailing by 3 at half time.
The visitors really showed their quality in the second half as they would go on to round up the game as comfortable winners. Although it was a bitterly disappointing result for the home side, it was a good test and run out against high quality opposition as we approach the beginning of the season. Best of luck to Geraldines AFC for the coming season.
