Hard earned away result for Rearcross ‘A’ against Sallypark Odhráns
Rearcross made the short journey to Sallypark for this Premier Division league encounter against the home team. Fresh off their great win in the FAI Junior Cup, Rearcross started the better of the two sides, aided by a strong breeze they looked to open the scoring but were denied on several occasions. Daragh O’Siochrú was dangerous up front and his constant running and was proving to be a thorn in Sallypark's side as he got in behind the defence on a number of occasions and was luckless that his final finish was unable to find the net. Tadgh O’Siochrú had a couple of efforts on the Sallypark goal as well, his best effort coming when his strike from the edge of the box was cleared off the line by a Sallypark defender. Rearcross hit the front in the 37th minute when a well worked move saw Paddy Deegan receive the ball on the left wing, he cut inside and found Paul Nolan on the edge of the box, the resulting effort saw the ball fall to Michael O' Gorman whose first time finish found its way to the corner of the net. Credit to Sallypark as they finished the half the stronger and they got in behind the Rearcross defence on a couple of occasions but some last ditch defending coupled with fine net minding from Jim Caplis in the Rearcross goal saw the lead remain at 1 nil at the break.
Rearcross started the 2nd half the brighter and could have doubled their lead when Daragh O’Siochrú found himself one on one with the keeper whom he rounded, but the angle was too much as his effort just went past the post. Sallypark grew into the game and thought they had equalised when a well worked move saw Damien Corcoran free on the right-hand side, only to see his effort flash past the upright. The hosts also conjured the next chance when a through ball from Willie Connors saw Rea trying to play offside, but Paul Ryan beat it only for his effort to go wide. Rearcross made a couple of subs after this which saw them double their lead when James Deegan slipped the ball into the path of Michael O Gorman who made no mistake to continue his fine form. It was Rea who looked the more likely to add to their lead when Paddy Dawson had an effort from outside the box fly past the post. Another good team performance from Rea which saw them come away with the 3 points in an away fixture that has always been a difficult assignment down through the years.
