Cup Semi-Final defeat for Rearcross 'B' in Latteragh
Rearcross 'B' were the visitors to Sallypark for the Nora Cup semi-final. It was the away side that got off to the worst possible when a quick one too saw Jack Hogan in on goal and he finished to the corner of the net. Rea who were aided by a strong breeze in the 1st half settled into the game without really creating too much in the way of chances. Colm Carey had the best chance of the half when he broke in behind the Sallypark defence but he couldn't find the target with his strike. Paul Carey also had an headed effort which went over the bar. Sallypark were causing Rea problems on the counter attack and only for some good defending they could have added to their 1 nil lead. It was roles reversed at the start of the 2nd half as Rea came out a different side. It was Paul Carey who had the 1st chance of the 2nd half when he won possession back from the defender with his 1st touch and his 2nd touch saw his strike just go over the bar when it looked destined for the top corner. Rea would not have to wait long for the equaliser when a cross from Colm Carey to the back post was headed into the top corner by Eamon Devitt who had timed his run to perfection. Rea were doing all the pushing now but it was Sallypark who took the lead against the run of play, when a corner which was swung in from the right by Joe Shanahan went all the way into the net. Sallypark added 2 more goals in quick succession. The 1st saw Darragh Murray hold his composure after a mistake by the Rea defence saw him one on one with the keeper and he slotted the ball low into the net. The 4th goal was the pick of the bunch when Jack Hogan picked up the ball on the side of the box and his half volley from an acute angle flew into the top corner. Credit to Rea as they battled away and Paul Carey pulled a goal back with a great finish, when he picked the ball up 25 yards from goal and chipped the keeper. 4-2 to Sallypark is how it finished who were deserved winners on the day. Thanks to Youngs for providing food after the game.
Also, a big thanks to Liam Nolan of the Congo Bar for his continued support throughout the year.
