Rearcross ‘B’ get back to winning ways

Rearcross ‘B’ travelled away to Templetuohy on Sunday for their fifth league fixture of the season. The opening 10 minutes were a closely matched affair until Adam Jones put the hosts in front early on after a misplaced Rearcross pass. Templetuohy extended their advantage only 5 minutes later when Eoin Stakelum scored with a free header at the back post. It was already looking to be a big uphill battle for Rea after just 15 minutes. However, the visitors couldn’t have reacted much better as a Gavin Denihan free kick found the net after 22 minutes to put them back on track. This was soon followed up by a Donnacha O’Brien goal to equalise for Rearcross after a Templetuohy defensive mix-up. Rea were well on top at this stage in the game and were rewarded once more when Mikey Feehan produced a great finish to put the away side ahead just on the stroke of half time.
The second half was a very evenly matched affair with both sides having their share of chances. Oisín Kelly very nearly extended the Rearcross lead as his close-range effort went just over the bar. Templetuohy also threatened the Rearcross goal several times during the half with Eamonn Devitt clearing off the line on one occasion to maintain the lead. Rea eventually went and made it four in the 88th minute when Colm Carey scored a brilliant goal almost identical to his second half finish vs Birdhill earlier in the season. David Brennan had the chance to well and truly put the game to bed in the dying moments but was denied by an excellent save from William Moore in the Templetuohy goal. Best on the day for Rea would have to be Eoin Sheldon who kept things tight in the middle of the park while covering a huge amount of ground.
