Glosha

Glosha were regular visitors to Rearcross during a glorious era of tournaments in the Slieve Felim region commencing circa 1970. One of the earliest encounters against the home side was played in Caplis’s field beside Collins post office after the game was transferred from the school grounds just before kick-off. Glosha played in the Western League in subsequent years and played their home games in Shanacloone.

A game recently recalled between Glosha and Crough Rovers played in Shanacloone drew an unusual reaction from outfield players, when smoke started to billow from the Crough Rovers goals after goalkeeper Mattie Kennedy (RIP) lit a furze bush in the goalmouth as there was a chill on that particular evening. It is unclear at this stage, what action if any, the referee took on that occasion.

Glosha players during that time included Jimmy Butler, Timmy Butler, Noel Butler, Pat Butler (RIP), Eddie Moloney, John Ryan Naughton, Tommy Ryan Naughton, Mike Carroll, Mossy Hynan, Mikey Lonergan, Johnny Mooney, Thady Butler and Eddie Murphy.
